This dolomite is quarried on the island of Saaremaa near Kuressaare and it’s also known as Saaremaa marble. This dolomite with colours ranging from light grey to bluish-grey formed more than 400 million years ago. This dolomite is not sorted by colour or pattern. Here you can read more about this stone with a distinguished history of use.
The antique or brushed surface finish is achieved by using special brushes that remove the stone’s softer part and highlight its natural texture. The surface feels “leathery” when touched and is seldom smooth or shiny. This gives the stone a slightly worn or “historical” appearance that mimics the natural wear that has occurred over time. The brushed surface finish is also practical – smaller usage marks do not stand out as easily as on a honed stone.
Dolomite Kaarma is characterized by its pores (their diameter can be up to 15 mm). In case of products made of Kaarma antique, the pores will not be filled.
The thickness of these floor tiles is 15 mm (for 60 × 60 cm tiles 20 mm).
Dolomite Kaarma is also available with honed surface finish.
